What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Avaya Communication de Colombia are currently transitioning into becoming a complete service and cloud company. Thus, we have been working on adjusting all the necessary procedures, agreements, and policies for the company. The geographical region that our team covers consists of over 43 countries within the Andean zone (Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador) and Central America and the Caribbean islands (Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic, the English Caribbean and Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, among other countries). We have successfully completed three different transactions, one in Colombia with a local customer providing our portfolio of cloud-managed services, other one in Puerto Rico on a subscription basis; and the last one in Ecuador to a local customer.
How much influence do you, as a general counsel, have on the diversity and inclusions policies of your organisation?
The diversity and inclusion policies are key to the management of our company. We have a separate department called ‘Business Unit-BU’ which implements policies to increase employee’s awareness of diversity and inclusion.
What legal and management trends do you see having an impact in your market?
As a cloud and unified communication company, we have utilised technologies to maintain day to day business, especially UC solutions – helping us to have a conference with over 50 individuals simultaneously by providing platforms to share documents, files, assigns and assigned tasks. We also provided technology training to different divisions and departments within the region – providing a useful scenario of negotiating agreements with our customers, providers, and employees. With the development of recent technologies, in-house legal functions can manage their workload with increasing productivity. The use of technology has been normalised over the pandemic; it is no longer regarded as a luxury.
