What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

In the last year, we managed a significant number of litigations, obtaining several rulings in favor. We also carried out an internal restructuring process, generating 4 mergers with significant efficiencies and savings for the company.

Furthermore, we led the legal defence strategy in competition matters, focusing on implementing self-regulation and compliance policies. Recently, we obtained an important ruling in favor of the second instance, in unfair competition litigation.

Finally, we are currently working to transform the legal area, with innovation of processes and procedures, implementing innovation, automation and digitisation.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

The company is in a process of constant product innovation and new business initiatives. Our job will be to become a partner for the business and guarantee the license to operate, through the legal viability of new initiatives and projects, within the current legal regulation. Therefore, we are in the process of digital transformation of the legal area, to be more innovative and more automated, combining legal analysis with new technological and digital tools, focusing on prevention and self-regulation.

If you had to give advice to an aspiring in-house lawyer or general counsel, what would it be and why?

In-house lawyers must be allies for the business. They must develop a great sense of ethics and combine the analysis of the law with the knowledge of the business, implementation of technology, and a strong focus on self-regulation and compliance policies.
