Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Our team led the unification of contracts templates to achieve the convergence of Claro’s services in Colombia, reducing the number of templates from 30 to six. These actions reflect the learning of new ways of conceiving contracts, and the adaptations that were generated during the pandemic era, to provide greater degrees of flexibility and interconnectedness in traditional, virtual, and evolving service ecosystems. This improved the experience of our internal and external customers and did not generate costs for Claro.

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?

AI is a reality with many applications in the legal field. The biggest challenge here is to take advantage of the benefits of these tools, without being tempted by the lure of AI-only designed contracts. The biggest challenge will be to act prudently in balancing legal realities with the results of an AI query. In no case is it ethical to delegate our responsibility to AI in the face of our professional engagements. In the next five years, legal consultants must have reconciled these challenges, generating value and trust for our internal and external clients, providing serious opinions that correspond to the reality of each situation.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Colombia?

Colombia is a country with a wide spectrum of territories and population groups, so the main priority of the country and Claro is to close the technological gaps in communications to guarantee access to information for all people. In that sense, our legal support is committed to making our documents and opinions facilitate those fundamental rights.
