Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

In five years, we have optimised the size of the team by around 25% and reduced outsourcing by 40%, limiting it to high quality qualified opinions or advice. In my view, our approach is innovative, as the legal team uses its influence to improve problem solving and risk management from the earliest stages. The culture of the team is dedicated to supporting the core areas to achieve the company’s objectives. In today’s uncertain times, we have successfully integrated ESG and communication groups into the general counsel team to manage risks, including legal, reputational, and sustainability, from a broad perspective.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Colombia?

We are facing a period of political and regulatory uncertainty, as well as numerous climate challenges. Both issues require rapid adaptability and flexibility in executing business strategy to preserve value for all the company’s stakeholders.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

In the case of ISAGEN, our ESG practices are within the scope of the general counsel’s role and responsibilities. ESG is integrated into all pillars of ISAGEN’s strategy as a guideline for the company’s performance in all its activities across governance, communities, operations, and finance.
