Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

We created an internal site to manage the request and generation of client and supplier agreements using a one-page draft contract. This new site has allowed us to improve our response time as well as the signature of these agreements which today generates a revenue of US$3,353,873, equivalent to 297 client agreements.

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?

It is essential to automate the contractual models used by a company so that they are harmonised with the company’s CRM and ERP and thus have a balance in the company’s accounting.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Colombia?

I believe one of the main trends impacting us right now is the management of limited resources due to the rising dollar, which makes it necessary to develop technological solutions that make legal advice more efficient and faster.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

We have developed an Environmental and Social Policy Framework that is global and applies to all our business operations in all jurisdictions and seeks to be consistent with the precautionary principle of “do no harm”. We aim to comply with all applicable environmental, health, safety, and labour laws and regulations in all our jurisdictions. Over time, we will seek to converge our internal policies and procedures with international industry best practice, such as the IFC Performance Standards.

What steps do you take to ensure the successful integration and adoption of new technologies among your team members?

We use our learning platform to develop 10-minute courses on personal data protection policy issues, procedures to prevent money laundering, corruption, financing of terrorism, arms proliferation and how to automate contractual processes to raise awareness of the importance of these issues within the company.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why?

I am passionate about education, and through the UBITS Learning platform, our goal in the company is to globalise education across Latin America to mitigate and reduce the inequality gaps in this population.
