About

Paola earned her law degree from the Universidad del Rosario in 2000. She received a specialisation in commercial law from Los Andes University in 2003 and postgraduate studies in Legal Aspects of Entertainment Law, from Facultad Central de Derecho, Mexico, in 2021. In 2022, she completed a programme for Women on boards of directors at Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración. 

She started her career in 2001 as a special projects lawyer for the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, where she led the relationship between the Intellectual Property Group of the Bogotá Chamber and the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. 

In 2004 she started to work for Casa Editorial El Tiempo, the country’s largest newspaper and media company. She spent the next six years in roles that included legal manager and general secretary for the company’s free TV channel Citytv. Her interest in mergers and acquisitions was solidified at El Tiempo as she participated in the sale of 55% of the newspaper’s shares to Grupo Planeta. She also helped sell Citytv. 

In 2010, she got a job as DirecTV’s corporate manager of Golf Channel Latin America in New York, where she had the opportunity to be the only woman columnist on the channel’s website and participated in negotiations and contracts for the channel. 

Upon returning to Colombia in 2014, Alvarado continued with the Golf Channel as a sales consultant and as an independent legal advisor until she was hired at Fox Telecolombia in 2017 as executive legal director for Colombia and Mexico. 

In Foxtelecolombia, she led the negotiations with Latam networks  that engage in the production or licensing of audiovisual programmes and content. In addition, she was in charge of overseeing the negotiations with talents (scriptwriters, directors, cast, musicians) and their manager 

In 2021, she led the process of selling the majority stake of Foxtelco (Panamá), Telecolombia, and Telemexico to Viacom CBS Networks International (Paramount Group), including the due diligence and corresponding transaction agreements. After the acquisition by Paramount, she worked to align company policies, in policies, including those on compliance, diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

Paola was a board member of the media guild Asomedios from 2018 to 2022. 

In May 2023, she started to work for Dynamo Producciones, a Colombian production company with physical and operational presences in Bogotá, Mexico, New York, and Madrid. Dynamo has produced premium audiovisual content (films and series) for Netflix, Apple, Amazon, and VIX, among others. Paola is the Chief Business and Legal Officer. One of her current challenges is the supervision of legal matters of the production “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, an adaptation of the iconic book written by Gabriel Garcia Márquez, for Netflix. 

She earned the Legal 500 Award in 2022 and was featured as an Expert Entertainment Lawyer by Vanguard Law Magazine in February 2023.
