What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

GenerativeAI is an emerging technology that will have a significant impact on the legal profession. GenAI is the latest evolution of AI characterised in its ability to create new content based on models previously trained, such as LLMs (large language models) or foundation models. GenAI will facilitate the legal work on doing due diligence, preparing drafts of agreements, reviewing evidence, and organising files, by finding patterns within the data provided to the model that feeds the GenAI solution. In Accenture we have prepared to embrace and use GenAI tools (i) by training our people on the responsible use of these tools; (ii) building a robust responsible AI policy, framework and guidelines for the business and legal teams when using them; (iii) making our people aware of potential risks on GenAI tools and making a legal assessment and guardrails to protect Accenture and our clients’ data; (iv) implementing GenAI in our legal operation and tools.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to Accenture’s culture and core values of fostering an innovative, collaborative, and high-energy work environment. In the legal department we prioritise diversity and implement initiatives to: (i) embed an inclusive and diverse environment that works for all; (ii) integrate inclusion and diversity into our priorities; and (iii) foster a culture that recognises efforts to improve inclusion and diversity. Our legal department actively participate in different inclusion activities, such as in the latest ‘Season of Impact’, in which we built houses for people with low financial resources, animals adoption campaigns, activities with people with mental disabilities, painting public schools, planting trees, among others. Our legal department is mainly composed of female lawyers, as part of our compromise to become more gender inclusive.
