How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During periods of instability or crisis, legal advice and risk management are critical to safeguarding a company’s interests. In such vulnerable times, the legal department becomes an even more integral business partner, guiding the company through challenges and supporting decision-making processes that enable successful navigation of difficulties. It is essential to ensure that all actions remain within the legal framework, adhering to both external laws and internal procedures.
Once the immediate difficulties have been addressed, it is crucial for the company, alongside its legal team, to capitalise on the lessons learned from these situations. This enables a quick adaptation to new realities and fosters a resilient mindset. Resilience, in turn, becomes a strategic asset, allowing the company to better navigate future changes, which are inevitable in today’s ever-evolving environment.
In summary, the legal department must establish a robust risk management framework that ensures business continuity during crises. Once stability is restored, the legal strategy should be realigned with the broader business strategy, focusing on recovery and growth. Crises often present opportunities for learning and improvement, positioning the company to emerge stronger and more prepared for future challenges.
What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Recently, we have been engaged in negotiating and finalising several commercial transactions and agreements to distribute and represent retail brands in Colombia. However, due to the sensitive nature of these transactions, I am unable to disclose specific details.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Emerging technologies are set to have a profound impact on the legal profession, compelling practitioners to adapt and focus on areas where technology cannot yet replicate human judgment. The primary challenge lies in understanding these new tools—how they function, the risks they pose, their limitations, and their reliability. While these concepts might be more intuitive for younger lawyers, they present a significant challenge for senior practitioners who may be less familiar with technological advancements.
However, these challenges should be viewed as opportunities for growth. Embracing new technologies and integrating them into legal practice will not only enhance professional capabilities but also strengthen the connection between legal professionals and the core business. The extent to which legal professionals adapt to these changes and effectively incorporate these technologies will determine their overall impact on their companies. By staying informed through continuous learning and professional development, legal practitioners can ensure they remain valuable assets in a rapidly changing landscape
