How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, such as the one that we live in Colombia, my approach involves proactive leadership within my team so we can have a risk assessment and agile response to every challenge we might encounter.
We evaluate our potential legal risks and liabilities for the company and our business, prioritising areas most vulnerable to instability. Then we look to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain open communication with relevant authorities on every front.
To align legal strategy with our business strategy, I focus on flexibility and deal with this situation as an adaptability challenge. We work closely with the company’s leaders to understand their goals and challenges, in this way we ensure that legal advice supports strategic objectives. This includes working on contingency plans and a broad legal framework that helps our team to take quick decisions and maintain operational continuity.
It is very important to have clear communication within the organisation. Keeping all interested parties informed about legal developments and their implications. Our actual government is proposing a wide variety of legal changes in almost every field. That´s why regular updates ensure that everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities during crises and uncertainty times.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
We are now living in a seminal time for humankind, the speed at which technology is advancing is poised to significantly impact lawyers and the legal profession soon around the world. Technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning can complement document redaction, reviews, corrections and editing, we can have predictive analysis of legal outcomes and enhance legal research. We can also use big data and data analytics, to improve data-driven decision-making and legal strategy development in every scenario. Legal tech and process automation can boost operational efficiency through case management platforms and automated tasks; and cybersecurity, safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
To stay updated on these developments, I look for specialised publications, attend events on how to use AI or how can introduce this technology to my daily tasks, I also follow specialised webinars and podcasts such Nicolas Uribe in Colombia and keep up with blogs and news. Staying informed about these technologies and their applications can enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation in the legal field.
