How do you approach managing the legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the resilience of the organisation?  

Companies have two ways of dealing with a crisis or instability specific to the business or the country: proactively or reactively. That is, there may be a preparation or anticipation, or act at that time and place with the risks that this entails: lack of control, lack of efficiency, avoidable errors in the decision-making and management process.  During periods of instability or crisis, I believe in taking a proactive approach to managing legal aspects. By being prepared and anticipating potential risks, we can act swiftly and effectively when challenges arise, minimising the impact of lack of control and inefficiencies. It is crucial for legal teams to not only align with the company’s vision and strategy but also to understand the current business conditions and adapt accordingly. In my view, legal areas play a crucial role in business resilience by being more than just internal advisors but active participants in strategic decision-making. Companies facing crises need allies who can combine strategic understanding, problem-solving skills, and resilience to navigate turbulent times successfully. 

What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?   

Teleperformance recently acquired Majorel for EUR3 bn. This acquisition significantly expanded the company’s presence in Europe, Latam, and globally and is a significant strategic move that consolidates Teleperformance’s position as a global leader in customer experience management. Despite the complexities inherent in such a large-scale transaction, the process was driven by innovation, quality execution, and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives to create economic and social impact in the regions where Majorel operates. The successful completion of this operation within a record time frame has further strengthened Teleperformance’s market position and paved the way for a future that embraces new technologies and opportunities. 

Which emerging technologies do you think will have the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay up to date on these developments?  

In general, all emerging technologies have an impact on the legal profession, from Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and applications to Big Data and Data-based Compliance. However, Teleperformance has a vertical dedicated to innovation and its applicability to the service of the business, and we as a legal team, can access and take the best of technologies and make it available to us. Artificial Intelligence stands out as one of the most impactful emerging technologies in the legal profession. Through AI, we have delved into predictive analysis projects that leverage algorithms to analyze historical data, identify trends, and assess potential risks. Additionally, our involvement in creating automated review mechanisms has enabled us to efficiently analyze vast datasets, pinpoint risks, identify non-compliances, and enhance operational efficiencies. 

By establishing a Legal-Tech division within the legal vice presidency, we are actively aligning ourselves with the corporate innovation strategy, staying informed about technological advancements, and ensuring legal certainty in their application. This proactive approach allows us to harness the power of emerging technologies and leverage them to drive positive outcomes for the organisation.
