How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
If there is a period of instability or crises, usually what I do is to analse what it is all about, what is happening within the company and how I can contribute to make the situation more bearable and for it to have the least possible impact. I am a team player, an in order to help to achieve the corporate goals the way I believe we should act is that each area of the company shall be aligned with the corporate strategy. To understand the goals and include them within the legal department’s objectives means that, from the moment we read a contract or receive a consultation we are doing our best efforts to ensure that company’s strategy is implemented.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Artificial intelligence will definitely have a significant impact, I cannot say for sure to what extent, but I think it will be very important and most likely in some scenarios it will be of great help, for example with the review of documents such as NDAs. The way in which I consider we can be up to date is by informing ourselves and understanding what the market trends are, how the confidentiality of information is guaranteed, and which of all this, is aligned with the company’s strategy in order to be able to implement it.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
Personally I assimilate the concept of diversity and inclusion to equitable and respectful treatment, to the extent that I believe that at the time of choosing a candidate, that person must understand how everyone should be treated equally and respectfully, and how in our team for example gender, race or sexual identity cannot be factors of discrimination but neither of choice of a candidate. I think that in teams that are not as large as in the case of legal, people core values and their professional qualities are the main factors to be considered, so no matter in which scenario that person is in, a legal team member shall promote a diverse and respectful environment, interacting with its company colleagues making them feel equally involved in and supported.
