Bolsa de Valores de Colombia
Bolsa de Valores de Colombia (BVC), Colombia’s stock exchange, employs a strong and highly capable legal team which is tasked with promoting regulatory changes needed to advance the development of the local capital market. Despite having had to deal with ever increasing quantity of work over the last two years, the team has showcased an ability to seamlessly keep up with day-to-day projects and demands, and is now an essential part in executing BVC’s strategic direction. In recent past, the legal department has impressed with its active support of local regulators in the issuance of rules that impact the exchange and the market. Notable examples, in this respect, include its work on assisting The Government of Colombia in passing an important tax reform, as well as its involvement in pushing rules aiming to improve efficiency in trading. In addition, the unit has recently gathered attention for its active participation in the creation and implementation of the Latin American Market Integration (known as MILA by its acronym in Spanish), a regional integration of the securities market of Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia. Highlights on the transactional front include the team’s ongoing involvement on the merger of two of the most relevant market infrastructure companies, as well as its work on supporting the privatization of ISAGEN’s special operation for USD$2.6 billion. Led by Alberto Velandia, a lawyer with over 25 years of professional experience, BVC’s team is comprised of nine employees (seven lawyers and two non-lawyers).
