With a presence in Colombia for over a decade, Coca-Cola FEMSA currently operates seven bottling plants located in major production centres in the country and employs approximately 5,000 people that serve 46.9 million customers. Featuring highly experienced lawyers, such as vice president for corporate and legal affairs Silvia Barrero and legal manager Carolina Arevalo, the team is responsible not only for supporting all operational activities of Coca-Cola FEMSA in the country, but also for advising on the company’s long-term strategic projects. Recently, for example, the team gathered praise for its successful work in obtaining legal permits for the construction and start-up of the Tocancipa Plant, which represents one of the largest projects in Latin America. Internally, the team has received acclaim from senior management for ensuring compliance within the company – by means of an accurate legal management plan – as well as for introducing innovations to existing technology tools and systems. Faced with the challenge of having to deal with accelerating regulatory change in Colombia, the team provides proactive training for company employees on new laws and regulations, so they can be applied to daily operations.
