Medellín’s metro system employs a strong group of lawyers to defend the company against the array of legal challenges and issues that it faces on a daily basis. Led by general secretary Maria Cristina Restrepo Toro and legal director Jeicy Juliet Pabón Restrepo, the team is responsible for the implementation of and compliance with legal standards in public procurement, ensuring normal functioning of the company. Operating in a dynamic and constantly changing environment, the team direct the implementation of policies that guarantee the authenticity of information generated by the company as outlined by the law and its organisational standards. Enjoying a close and ongoing interaction with other divisions within the company, the team provides legal and administrative support directly to senior management and the board of directors, enabling timely implementation of long term corporate initiatives. The unit has impressed with its work to structure intermodal transport projects operated by public and private entities and with the implementation of the technology necessary to manage fleet and communications. Of note is also the team’s extensive participation in the reorganisation of the public transport system in Medellín and the local metropolitan region for the past eight years, contributing actively to the smooth operation of public transport in the city.
