Headquartered in Bogotá, Terpel is an oil and gas company that operates a number of different business lines: service stations, convenience stores, oils and lubricants, corporate mobility, marine solutions, aviation, natural gas for vehicles. In August 2014, Terpel began trading on the Colombian Stock Exchange, and following its high volume of trades became part of the COLCAP Index just 12 months later. The company’s in-house legal team is led by Daniel Alfonso Perea, vice president corporate and legal affairs – who was included on the 2016 GC Powerlist for Colombia for his individual talent and his role in the expansion of Terpel since joining the company in 2006. Terpel has needed significant legal advice over the last few years, as its management have ambitious plans for expansion and strategic development of new products. Perea and the team have already overseen approximately $500m worth of mergers and continue to support the expansion strategy across Latin America. As the company grows, so does the legal team – Perea now has five direct reports, who cover advice for subsidiaries across Colombia, Chile, Panama and wider Latin America (such as the operations in Ecuador, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Peru). The team has truly demonstrated its value during a time when Terpel has needed to achieve tough corporate, business and strategic objectives; a time in which it has been so successful that they have adopted matters of reputation, sustainability, corporate responsibility and communications into its wide remit.
