What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
In recent year, KK Wind Solutions has completed a number of acquisitions whereby KK Wind Solutions has more than doubled and the business activities are more diversified. The legal team has played an instrumental part in both the acquisitions but also the subsequent post-merger integration activities.
To also support the diversification of the business activities, the legal team at KK Wind Solutions has implemented a legal contractual framework supporting such new business activities.
In general, KK Wind Solutions is in a transformational phase to embrace the future growth and to support such transformation, we have and are further implementing miscellaneous compliance and governance measures to ensure a more efficient and sustainable Business Operating Model. Further and to constantly focus on efficiency and costs, we have pushed the agenda for the digitalisation and automation of the work of the legal team at KK Wind Solutions.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
I believe that an in-house legal function should be a part of the business, rather than only provide advice to the business. In brief terms, this requires that an in-house legal function is into the details of the business itself, possesses strong business acumen combined with professional legal competencies and professional pride. Thereby, I believe that a legal function may act both as business partners providing proactive support in the business projects but also assume a governance and compliance function de-risking or risk mitigating the business activities.
How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?
We pursue to act as a part of the business whereby, we have experienced that such an approach supports close cooperation with business counterparts, all aiming for the same objectives. This entails among others understanding the details of the business (including business goals, challenges, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape), communicating in a transparent way, speaking the language of our colleagues, and providing proactive legal support.
