What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
Being an in-house lawyer in the IT industry require technical acumen, adaptability, and risk management skills to navigate a rapidly evolving landscape. It is important to align legal strategies with business objectives, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and uphold ethical integrity.
Problem-solving ability, compliance expertise, and negotiation skills are essential for addressing complex legal issues. Further, it is important to build relationships within the organisation. In essence, the qualities to be a successful in-house lawyer is a combination of legal expertise, technical knowledge, business acumen, and interpersonal skills.
How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?
To foster closer collaboration between the legal department and our business counterparts, it is important to have regular meetings and open communication channels, ensuring that legal considerations are integrated early into project planning and decision-making processes. By actively engaging with business counterparts, understanding their objectives, and providing tailored pragmatic legal support aligned with their goals, we have built stronger relationships based on trust and mutual respect. This collaborative approach has facilitated smoother workflows, improved compliance, and ultimately contributed to the achievement of our organisational objectives.
