What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The sale of Sybo ApS to a large UK based game company in 2022 is the most significant transaction in my career. Since the sale of the business, I have been occupied with the post completion tasks related to the sale. Other significant cases are larger IP partnership deals within the entertainment industry and brand collaborations. Another significant task in the Sybo legal department is making sure we publish a compliant mobile game on the app stores.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

I’m not sure it’s a unique quality but knowing your business and the commercial context very well is always a good starting point. Your need to understand how your business makes money and what the commercial drivers are. You also need to understand your business’ position in the wider industry and the market your business operates on. It is also important to understand the overall strategy and where you’re going to provide the most efficient and holistic advice.

Curiosity is particularly important and helpful when working as an in-house lawyer as well as being able to communicate effectively and provide clear and practical advice to your colleagues. SYBO is a tech company and being curious is simply necessary to be able to understand how the business works.

Acquiring base to expert level knowledge within M&A, commercial contracts and IP law has been a good combination of areas to become successful in the games industry.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

At SYBO, we have established a reputation as being problem solvers and approaching legal issues with balance. By staying on the cutting edge of regulatory and legal developments, we can meet the team where they want to be and help push the boundaries of exciting game development while always staying compliant.

One way we have fostered closer collaboration with other teams is by making ourselves more visible, literally. By being physically present and available, teams know where to find us and have learned that we have an open door to new issues.

I’m passionate about the idea of creating the very best place to work. At SYBO that is part of our values as a business and something we actively work to create daily. We want to be professionally playful (we are after all a gaming company), act kindly and thereby foster shared success. Being professionally playful and having fun comes naturally to the employees in SYBO. I am very passionate about these values and the whole idea of creating an awesome workplace where people want to deliver the best work of their lives. We have recently moved into a new building in the centre of Copenhagen and the vibe in the company is amazing.
