Can you give an idea of the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the work of Flügger Legal and Compliance has been largely affected with regards to a strong focus on sanctions compliance, export control procedures, and specifically in Ukraine, the department has been dealing with many new laws following the state of war.

Do you have an example of a time when you have come up with an innovation that improved how your legal team functions, while avoiding any large expense?

Over the last two years, we have built and implemented a new legal compliance system strengthening and streamlining our reporting on legal compliance status. We report on all relevant areas of law within each of our covered jurisdictions. Further, the system enables an easy way of handling and remembering all the numerous related tasks for each individual legal team member during the year.

What can law firms do to improve their service to the legal department?

Many external lawyers need to be more aware of the differences between working in-house and in a law firm. Quite often advice is given in a way optimal for the law firms rather than being tailored to the individual client. Hence, such responses need to be rewritten before they are useable in the in-house context where the answers must take many different aspects into consideration besides the legal ones – and in a setting where end receiver of the answer is often not a lawyer.

How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected your company and the team’s priorities?

In Flügger, we have for years been working towards CO2-neutral production, using recycled plastic in our packaging as well as producing 100% sustainable paint, which is labeled with either international or Nordic ecolabels.
