First, can you give us an idea of the type of work your team has done recently? 

Our team handles a wide range of responsibilities, including the assessment and analysis of legal risks related to draft laws, agreements, resolutions, regulations, and court cases. In addition, we provide legal opinions in claims and arbitration cases, as well as in the application of laws, decrees, and conventions. We advise national and international teams involved in domestic and foreign public debt issues and placements on behalf of the country. We also assisted in several international debt transactions, including a sovereign liability management (LMO) transaction, recognised as the best in its category by Latin Finance.

How do you keep current with changes in Dominican laws and regulations that are relevant to your organisation’s industry?  

We keep up to date with changes through a conscientious study of jurisprudence and legislation, both national and international, paying special attention to the decisions of the Constitutional Court of the Dominican Republic. In addition, I make sure to keep abreast of the latest changes in laws and regulations that may affect the institutional framework.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about and why?  

One of the issues that has consumed much of my attention is the need to balance employment in the public service. At times, one can get the impression that personal trust carries significant weight in this matter. This approach, while understandable, can cloud the importance of choosing professionals on merit and competence. From my experience as a civil servant, I feel the need to promote a culture of excellence, where positions are filled with competent and qualified people, while reinforcing the integrity of the public administration. This is essential for building strong institutions and assures citizens that their government is working in their interest.
