Legal director | Casa Brugal
Ralvin Gross
Legal director | Casa Brugal
Team Size: Three
Firstly, can you give us an idea of the type of work your team has done recently?
In general terms, our team oversees and manages all legal aspects of Casa Brugal. In the Dominican Republic, the team handles compliance, contracts, corporate, intellectual property, and brand protection. The team also works closely on the management of institutional issues. Internationally, the team is responsible for overseeing the legal side of brand distribution. During 2022, our team played a key role in the negotiation and formalisation of a bottling agreement with a well-known and prestigious Spanish company, located in Jerez. With this agreement, this Spanish company will bottle a large quantity of Brugal in Spain, one of the largest and most important markets for the Brugal brand.
How do you keep up to date with changes in laws and regulations relevant to your organisation’s industry?
We maintain an active participation in the legal committees of various associations such as AIRD and ADOPRON, through which we collaborate and contribute to draft laws that are relevant to the industry.
What is one cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about and why?
I am concerned that the regulation of digital signatures in the Dominican Republic is lagging behind everyone else. Due to the difficulties and complexities of digital signatures, there is a strong attachment to ink and paper signatures, which prevents businesses and agreements from being formalised with the agility they deserve.
