Raul Alejandro Peña Medina has a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), complemented by a master’s degree in legal practice from the same university, as well as a master’s degree in administration and management obtained at Montpellier Business School, France.
He formed and has been in charge of the Legal and corporate affairs department of Grupo Carol since 2018, which involved structuring the legal area, as well as the area of communications and institutional relations. For this, it was necessary to create its contractual matrix, as well as communicate plans to continuously strengthen the strategic positioning of Grupo Carol with all its stakeholders.
Among its main functions is general legal assistance to the more than 125 branches nationwide, negotiations with local and international suppliers, coordination and participation in internal management committees, strategic legal advice regarding current or future ventures, together with the participation and representation before unions, business associations and government institutions.
His 15 years of experience as a strategic ally of a myriad of local and foreign investors and entrepreneurs in the country, allows him to currently function as a true advisor and business facilitator in his role as legal advisor of a leading company in the health sector in the Dominican Republic.
During Raul’s tenure in law firms, he focused his practice on advising and accompanying multinational companies, financial intermediation entities and national and international investors in fiscal and tax matters, mining, energy, hydrocarbons, real estate, due diligence procedures, mergers and acquisitions, as well as corporate law in general. He participated in the largest transactions in the local market, such as the reorganisation and sale of the assets of the main wholesaler and distributor of hydrocarbons in the Dominican Republic, as well as the indirect acquisition of the most important brewery in the Caribbean, to date the largest acquisition in the Dominican Republic and one of the most relevant in the industry for the region for an amount exceeding US$2bn.
In addition to this, he has served as legal advisor to mining companies currently operating in the country, from the acquisition of the concession and its holding to the reactivation and start-up of their operations at a general level, in addition to advising companies that operate or plan to undertake power generation projects in the Dominican Republic.
