Team Size: Six 

Firstly, can you give us an idea of the type of work your team has done recently? 

In the litigation area, we work together with external offices on criminal, labour, civil, compulsory collection, national and international claims. In the commercial area, we work on the structure, logistics, discussion, and preparation of all concession agreements for commercial spaces, water activities, service agreements, confidentiality and operational agreements required by the group. We work together with public entities in all state and private permitting areas of tourism, electricity, environment, quality control and other related areas. Our team provides advice in the civil, commercial, permitting, real estate and labour areas. We are also responsible for the handling of the day-to-day operations related to the legal side of all the group’s hotels. We also assist in the management of the business’s own- and third-party strategy, as well as assisting all external lawyers in all daily documentation necessary for the follow-up and handling of legal proceedings. Finally, my team is also responsible for the negotiation of the Group’s labour, civil and commercial proceedings.
 

How do you keep up to date with changes in Dominican laws and regulations relevant to your organisation’s industry? 

To keep up with laws and regulations, our team have participated in workshops, diploma courses and various in-person and digital courses in civil, commercial, and commercial arbitration, my great passion, given by national and international institutions. As a member of the College of Notaries and especially of the new board of directors of the Dominican College of Notaries Puerto Plata Branch, we received new training in the general area of law and especially in the guarantees of national and international notarial law. I actively participate in virtual forums as a member of the current board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Puerto Plata. Finally, to keep updated I regularly participate in trainings as arbitrator of the Centre for Dispute Resolution and Arbitration of the province of Puerto Plata.
 

What is one cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about and why? 

One of the main problems in our country is the legal insecurity and the applicability of new technological tendencies in the legal area. Only recently are our Dominican courts adapting to these technological advancements while they attempt to streamline processes and procedures, which is already outdated in other countries.
