Legal and corporate vice-president | Grupo Martí
Alexandra Gartner
Legal and corporate vice-president | Grupo Martí
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The main aspect of developing legal strategies is to procure a balance between the operation of the business group and the growth that needs to be developed with the reality of the sectors we operate in. Creating innovative and disruptive legal strategies that allow for the growth and evolution of operations, always contributing to operational efficiency, economic performance, and compliance with laws.
As part of the executive management team, I actively participate in making these strategic decisions for Grupo Martí, which allows me to assess the risks of decisions and mitigate them. The legal vice-presidency is an ally of operations, and we allow ourselves to be part of growth and development.
What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Relevant transactions include the strategic alliance and subsequent merger between Grupo Martí and TotalEnergies for the liquid fuels, natural gas, and renewable energy (solar) sector in the Dominican Republic. The acquisition of new vehicle brands in the Dominican Republic, as well as expansion in the automotive sector through the acquisition of new brands in Central American and Caribbean countries. In the energy sector, obtaining permits, signing the Power Purchase Agreement, and contracts for the construction and subsequent operation of a 50MW solar park in the Dominican Republic.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
As part of my duties, I oversee the human resources department, which allows me to actively participate in diversity and inclusion policies. Currently, within Grupo Martí, we constantly review and update our diversity and inclusion policies, as well as evaluate our compliance and set goals for where we want to be. We work to ensure that compliance with policies is transversal to all departments.
In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently?
It would be artificial intelligence. Companies and operations are adapting to the changes that artificial intelligence has brought and will continue to bring. It allows for innovation in operations and projects internally within the company, as well as in the services provided to customers, suppliers, and others.
