How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?  

During periods of instability, I implement a proactive approach based on anticipation and adaptation. I perform real-time risk analysis to identify potential legal threats and coordinate with key business areas to align our strategies. Thanks to technology, we can use risk-based tools that allow rapid responses to changes and consequently considerably reduce the impact and sometimes eliminate them. This approach not only allows the legal function to be reactive, but also contributes to the resilience of the company. 

What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?  

I was involved in the negotiation of a long-term supply contract with a strategic supplier, which will allow us to reduce costs and ensure the quality of inputs. This transaction involved a detailed review of the liability and compliance clauses. Additionally, I contributed to the strategy of significant litigation that resulted in a favorable ruling for the company. This success not only safeguarded our legal interests, but also prevented a significant economic impact and strengthened our market position against future similar disputes. 

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?  

Our company has adopted a sustainable business model, implementing policies that prioritise the use of renewable resources and waste reduction. As a lawyer, I promote the integration of sustainability clauses in our contracts and advise on environmental regulations. 

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?   

Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics will transform the legal profession. These tools not only streamline document review and legal research, but also allow you to predict trends and behavior in litigation. I stay up to date through webinars, conferences and professional networks, as well as participating in discussion groups where innovations in legal practice are shared. 

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?  

Prioritising diversity starts with an inclusive recruiting process that values different perspectives and experiences. At Grupo Ramos, the legal department plays an important role by collaborating closely with our people management department, to establish recommendations and improvements in certain processes. Additionally, as a legal department, we foster an environment of openness where everyone’s voices are valued, thus promoting a culture of collaboration and respect, which is essential to our collective success. This initiative is reinforced by the creation of clear policies supported by various internal committees that actively support diversity and inclusion in all our operations. 

In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently?  

In the Dominican Republic, the most relevant trends include the digitalisation of legal processes and increased interest in sustainability. Digital transformation is leading to greater efficiency and accessibility in the legal sector, while companies are beginning to integrate sustainable practices into their operations, reflecting growing social awareness and concern for the environment. These trends are reshaping the business environment, creating opportunities for those who adapt quickly.
