Spotlight on: My career 

Mayra C. Jacobo Troncoso has Law Degree from Iberoamericana University of Santo Domingo – Summa Cum Laude, and a Master of Law (LL.M) in American Law with a concentration in International Business Law from Boston University.   

In September 2024, she will start as the General Counsel of Arajet, S.A. a low-cost airline and the flag carrier of the Dominican Republic, founded by one of the world’s largest private multi-asset alternative investment firms, Bain Capital, as well as Griffin Global Asset Management, a commercial aircraft leasing and alternative asset management company. 

Previously to Arajet, Mayra was the legal manager of Pueblo Viejo Mine located at Cotui, Sanchez Ramirez Province, Dominican Republic, the largest gold mine in Latin America and 13th largest gold mine in the world. The mine is operated by the branch of Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Jersey 2 Limited – Barrick Pueblo Viejo, owned by the joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (60%) and Newmont Corporation (40%). Her focus as Legal Manager is to provide legal guidance to Country Manager and key relevant operation areas with relevant regulatory, governmental, corporate, transactional, labor and environmental matters. 

Before joining Barrick Pueblo Viejo, Mayra was an Associate at Squire Patton Boggs Penna Prieto Gamundi for almost 11 years. She focused her practice on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, finance and governing, aviation and intellectual property. Mayra represented multinational clients regarding the structuring and reorganization of their business interests and investments in the Dominican Republic and assisted sellers and purchasers in mergers and acquisitions of business entities and assets. Mayra also assisted clients in creating and implementing corporate structures, from the incorporation of Dominican companies to establishment of branches in the Dominican Republic. She also represented airlines in starting their operations in the Dominican Republic, and with their day-to-day operations.   

Mayra was the coauthor of the Dominican Republic Chapter of the Aviation Law Review – Law Business Research for the Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Edition.   

Mayra has been involved in several international competitions including the Human Rights International Competition held in Washington DC and the Human Rights International Competition “Eduardo Jimnez de Aréchaga,” held in San José, Costa Rica.
