Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?

The introduction of sugar taxes in several African countries has significantly impacted our pricing strategies and product formulations. Our legal team has been deeply involved in ensuring compliance and advising on the implications of these regulations.

Additionally, stricter environmental regulations, particularly concerning plastic usage and waste management, have led to an increased focus on sustainability initiatives. Our legal team has worked extensively on ensuring that all operational activities meet these new regulatory standards.

Finally, political instability in neighbouring regions has occasionally disrupted supply chains and necessitated us to produce creative legal solutions to ensure business continuity.

Are there any causes, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

Digital and privacy is a critical area of focus for me. In my previous background, training as a lawyer at Bowmans, I specialised as a technology and telecommunications lawyer. It is natural that I took the lead on both the digital and privacy networks in the company for the Africa Operating Unit once I joined. As the lead, I advocate for the business’ legal needs in its digital transformation agenda in Africa and for our compliance with regional privacy laws.
