What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Over the past year our team has delivered a comprehensive range of legal services to PwC. Our collaboration with business teams involved managing legal risk and ensuring compliance across evolving service offerings, including innovative technology solutions and AI-driven opportunities. Our team specialises in meticulous contract reviews and skilful negotiations. In addition, we ensure that our commercial contract terms align with the firm’s digital strategy.

As our diverse clientele spans leading multinational companies, small start-ups, from family businesses and governments, to charities, international development organisations and private individuals, our team adeptly navigates the unique contractual and commercial risks that are associated with our service offering to this broad spectrum of clients. We provide expert advice on a wide spectrum of legal issues including data protection at both local and multinational level.

This year, we harnessed technology through an integrated workflow tool which enables us to process legal requests from the business seamlessly from start to finish. This tool facilitates impact measurement and proactive strategy development based in identified trends. As part of the PwC network, we maintain close interactions with contacts within the PwC office of general counsel community worldwide. This collaborative approach allows us to address emerging issues swiftly, leverage on different experiences and remain agile in supporting the business.

Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?

On strong example is AI regulation in the EU. Given the global nature of our work at PwC and despite the absence of a specific legal framework in the region, the legal team has had to proactively lean in to understand and guide the business through the legal risks and challenges associated with AI offerings even as the firm utilises and derives value from AI tools.

Another good example is data protection compliance. As data protection supervisory authorities are established in most East Market Area countries, additional regulations have also been introduced in some territories. Our team facilitates business compliance to ensure that PwC remains aligned with the data protection requirements.

Are there any causes, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am deeply passionate about rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology. The transformative impact of AI on various industries, including legal services fascinates me. AI has the potential to revolutionise how we approach legal research, contract analysis, and risk assessment. I am committed to staying at the forefront of these advancements and ensuring that our clients can benefit from cutting-edge solutions while navigating the legal complexities associated with AI adoption.

Another area close to my heart is ESG and sustainable practices. As businesses worldwide embrace their responsibility towards the environment, society, and governance, I am deeply committed to promoting sustainable practices. At PwC, our dedication to the net zero strategy is at the forefront of our efforts. Whether it is advising on green initiatives, advocating for ethical supply chains, or ensuring compliance with ESG reporting requirements, legal professionals like us play a pivotal role in shaping a more responsible and resilient future.
