What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
We handled a contractual matter wherein a claim had been made to the tune of Kshs 1.4Billion. We defended the matter and were able to position strong and compelling legal arguments that led to the reduction of the claim from Kshs 1.4Billion to Kshs 4Million. We also opposed the granting of costs, and the court upheld our arguments thereby awarding no costs for the matter.
Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?
The enactment and operationalization of the Data Protection Act had an impact on my work. The team had to review the end-to-end business processes and align the organization and all its subsidiaries in line with the requirements of the act. This meant developing the following:
Are there any causes, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
Yes. I am passionate about diversity and inclusion. I have over the years championed the diversity agenda at the workplace by pushing for commitments to enhance gender balance and women in management positions to at least 50%. I led the design phase of a Women in Leadership Project on behalf of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) which is part of the World Bank Group.
I champion inclusivity by ensuring that organizations I work for have put measures and the requisite facilities to accommodate people who are differently abled.
