What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
The Legal team provides legal and governance support to businesses in various African countries and has also recently begun to provide similar support to some of the businesses in our Asian countries of operation. This expansive scope of work enables us to learn and ensure compliance with laws and regulations of multiple African and Asian jurisdictions as well as to understand and appreciate the economic, social and political environments in these countries.
Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?
The Covid 19 Pandemic, the War in Ukraine and the ongoing Red Sea crisis have all had significant impacts on the various businesses we support, particularly from a supply chain perspective. The tightening fiscal policies in some countries have also had an impact. The roll out of Data Protection & Privacy laws across the world is having a growing impact on our contractual relations with many of our stakeholders.
Are there any causes, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
I am passionate about providing practical and timely legal and governance support to businesses that have a positive developmental impact in their areas of operation, particularly in respect of economic growth for all sections of society. I am fortunate that my current role enables me to fulfil this passion.
