Our legal team managed $10m insurance litigation over the last year, and we are currently implementing the new compliance program throughout INTEROC group companies.
In what ways do you see the in-house legal role evolving in your region over the next few years?
The role of in-house counsel will become increasingly significant in Ecuador. Many companies are now hiring in-house counsel as an advisor on legal as well as ethical issues. In-house lawyers help the companies to reduce the high legal costs of external counsel service.
How important have “soft skills” or personal attributes outside of technical legal skill been to the team’s success, and which “soft skills” do you feel are most important for an in-house lawyer to possess?
Soft skills are crucial to build a strong legal team. I believe that the most important soft skills are teamwork and creativity.
