What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I manage a large group of companies that frequently wins many small victories. We have been involved in tax procedures in which millions of dollars have been recovered, and a competition process where it was demonstrated that a sanction imposed by the authority for half a million dollars was wrong.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

Our policy is to always have a shortlist from which to choose our external advisors. However, we have forged alliances with good firms that have given us impeccable results. If an advisor has different principles than those we manage within the group, we do not consider it; we believe the advisor does not do things according to the law and good customs.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

It is increasingly necessary to constantly learn not only about the regulations, but also about the environment and the sector since particularly due to globalisation and the accessibility information. Changes are rapid and this generates more attention internally; it is important to keep up with these changes.
