The main challenge that is now a goal met by Cirion’s legal team has been the evolution regarding our transformation from Lumen to Cirion, after the formal closing of the sale of Lumen’s Latin American business to Stonepeak, a leading world class investment firm. Among many and complex tasks accomplished, important to highlight the legal corporate management to achieve the change of the legal name of each our subsidiaries around Latin America, and along with it the updating/renewal of the contractual relationships with each of our regional strategic suppliers, in order to provide world-class services and network levels to our customers, strengthening our overall capabilities and becoming a technological partner for the most relevant industries in the region.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most? Which have you found most useful in your legal team?
As a corporation that provides technology and telecommunications services, the expansion of digital transformation is a truth that already directly influences the role of in-house legal teams. What we must understand is that the accelerated advancement of technology is a true advantage that must be taken as a benefit by legal teams. In our case, we have already implemented platforms to attend our internal client by using artificial intelligence, which have allowed us to have better response times and thus contribute to the closing of important businesses on a daily basis.
Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?
In-house lawyers are a fundamental piece to drive the permanent change that corporations are currently experiencing, even more so in this time where corporate changes and restructurings are increasingly frequent. It is a fact that in-house lawyers are not only well-placed to manage these types of changes, but it is our responsibility to guarantee that these changes are made within compliance to the permitted legal framework, using the best existing way and avoiding juridical risks for the company. This mentality must already be ingrained in the role of the in-house lawyer.
