What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
I think that the most challenging cases were the ones related to our Latin American countries, due to their changes of governments and their high exposure to corruption. Despite this, we made business in this environmental, by taking care of our procedures and anti-corruption politics, without legal and reputational risks.
How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?
We see our external advisors and lawyers as strategic partners and let them know it, so we evaluate them periodically to ensure that they still align with our values and principles, because our first priority with the legal services is to make business without legal and reputational risks.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
The best way to create strong relationships with our business partners is to establish the “game rules” from the beginning of the relationship and to align our values and principles permanently.
What are some of the main legislative or regulatory changes that have impacted you?
The last regulatory changes in the region impacted us in a positive way because they give us a good frame to make business in a no-risk environmental.
