We are currently implementing the compliance system for the company in Ecuador. This has posed a very big challenge for the legal team and for the entire organisation.

Why are good internal lawyers in a position to drive change in their organisations?

In-house lawyers are well placed to drive change in their organisations because of the credibility they convey; if your organisation trusts you, your change proposals will be accepted by the administration.

In general, what would you like to see change in the external law firms you use?

Apart from a good billing flexibility, I would like external law firms to improve their response time to the company’s requirements.

What diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives have you and your legal department been championing within your company’s efforts?

We have advocated for more equity. This initiative involves giving more trust and responsibility to female legal professionals so that they are paid the same as their male counterparts.

Given that we live in a fast-paced world, what skills does a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern domestic industry?

Management of technology is a prerequisite for success as a corporate legal team. This involves developed skills in managing digital contracts, applications such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and more recently, ChatGPT.
