What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

One of my main challenges is leading the legal area of ​​an automotive company, since historically these are positions that have been led fundamentally by men.

This year, Automotores y Anexos was authorised by the control authority to issue long-term obligations, which involved teamwork to meet the different requirements. The legal area contributed with the delivery of the corporate information required for the corresponding inspection by the supervisory authority, which was satisfactory.

Likewise, the implementation of a legal compliance management system is beginning, which allows strengthening the structure of the company, through the prevention and mitigation of unnecessary legal risks; at the same time as generating a culture of compliance in all of us who are part of the organisation.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

A fundamental part of internal corporate lawyers are undoubtedly external law firms. Choosing the right ones is the key to success. Personally, I am proud and satisfied that the legal team of external lawyers shares the company’s corporate values ​​and acts with professionalism and ethics.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

Technology advances in today’s world by leaps and bounds, and legal areas are not excluded from these advances; Therefore, I believe that incorporating young professionals who are studying law contributes to being that engine that injects dynamism and a new vision into corporate legal areas. The experience of lawyers from previous generations added to the innovative ideas of this new generation can become a powerful formula for success. The challenge is to allow these spaces and dare to learn from young people.

Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?

Being an in-house lawyer, you have the opportunity to delve into the very operation of the organisations; which leads to a deeper knowledge of the processes and operations that occur on a day-to-day basis. Each organisation has its own DNA and being part of it makes it possible to visualise a legal contingent more clearly to mitigate it in time.

Likewise, all areas of the organisation feel that there is immediate support and a prompt solution by having a visible internal legal face, which makes commercial transactions and businesses flow in adequate times and with ideal legal coverage.
