Head of legal, new markets | Cintra
Could you please share the most significant cases or transactions in the LATAM region that you or your legal team have recently been involved in?
My team and I have been involved in advising Cintra on bidding for major infrastructure projects in several countries across LATAM, particularly in Chile, Colombia, and Peru.
In addition to regular bidding processes, I have also provided advice on M&A transactions and all legal issues arising in relation to projects that are already awarded and currently in operation.
What strategies do you employ to ensure your legal advice is effectively aligned with the unique regulatory environments and cultural nuances of different LATAM countries?
Keeping an open mind. Laws vary greatly between countries, and some in LATAM are very active in enacting legislation, making the environment highly dynamic. Therefore, nothing can be taken for granted, and we must always work with an open mind.
What are your organisations plans in the LATAM region over the next 12 months and how will your legal expertise help to achieve these plans?
Although I cannot provide details on Cintra’s strategy, we will continue to be strong business partners within our organisation, and our work will remain involved in all legal affairs in LATAM.
What specific challenges have you encountered when managing legal issues related to Latin American markets from a European perspective, and how has your team addressed these challenges?
Although we always engage local counsel, we are accustomed to working in different and diverse jurisdictions. It is important to remain open-minded and willing to learn. Our role is to take all advice received from external counsel, ensuring that, from a legal perspective, all operations align not only with local laws but also with the company’s acceptable risk profile and internal policies.
