What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?
I’ve managed two major regulation related in-court cases in Finland; the other being subject to CJEU preliminary ruling currently and the other being outstanding at the market court. In addition to DR matters I have closely worked with the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), constant improvement of corporate governance and compliance.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
I try to bite legal challenges to smaller parts rather than try to solve complexities straight forward as a whole. Furthermore I find understanding the business essential to be able to provide and propose useful solutions. I’m also curious and wish to understand where colleagues and people are coming from to understand different approaches and views to matters that need to be commonly resolved.
What do you derive the most satisfaction from in your work?
Ability to execute and finalise large projects that involve and require input from various specialists and stakeholders. Ability to make things happen and see that co-ordinated approach and curiosity to people and different things opens views – sometimes even such that you did not knew exists.
What are the key things you prioritise to get the most out of your team?
I invest time in building trust within the time to ensure that everyone feels comfortable to ask questions, to challenge and give their best for common good. I’m happy to get to learn my team members personally and willing to discuss if that somehow i.e. clarifies the matter for the colleague who is having a challenging legal question.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
I believe I’m not too different from other GC’s but I find AI and documentation management something that is rapidly developing and will very likely change also business of legal teams and GC’s – if it has not revolutionised it already.
