What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?
The company announced in July 2024 changes to its operating model to better meet the profitable growth ambitions. The aim is to increase customer centricity, strategic focus, speed of delivery and accelerate growth and shareholder value creation. Within this company wide reorganisation exercise also the structure of Legal organisation including its focus as well as ways of working have been reassessed within a fairly short time. The outcome, effective as of January 1st, 2025, was achieved as a result of good team effort within Legal and it includes a multiple of new elements which should be very helpful for the company and the team going forward.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Practical hands-on attitude is essential, and you should never underestimate the need and impact of fact based, clear and forward-looking communication. It is important to focus on most relevant aspects and to provide such advise and guidance which helps the organisation to make right decisions.
What do you derive the most satisfaction from in your work?
Developing people. It’s great to be able to support and assist talented people with their career development. Regardless, whether it takes place within the current function or leads their career path to other operations within or outside the company. The other area is solving challenging problems or working with major projects, typically major M&A&D transactions.
What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?
Everything and nothing. We are all unique individuals but as we have more or less similar duties and challenges, we tend to have many commonalities in how we deal with various matters.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
Very good understanding of the business and purpose of the company or organisation and capability to support that by being proactive, forward looking and solution oriented. Capability to provide support even when the information needed for giving value adding advise is less than complete. Capability and desire to develop talent. And finally, good understanding of the importance of communication.
