Career Biography

Karim Tähtivuori, graduated from Helsinki University’s Faculty of Law in 1993, has been the Head of Legal for Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken Helsinki Branch for the past 12 years, and has worked as an inhouse counsel for all his career, totaling almost 30 years as a finance lawyer. He also spent five years working for a major consumer electronics company responsible for the company’s own as well as customer finance transactions, insurance related legal matters as well as subsidiary administration for well over 100 affiliates.

Karim heads an effective team of sixprofessionals, covering a wide range of banking and asset management products and services.

Karim believes in empowering his team and coaching each lawyer as means to make work meaningful, demanding and professionally rewarding. The goal being that each lawyer in his team can take on all kinds of assignments and projects.

“As an inhouse lawyer, you can never say “no, I cannot help you” or “sorry, but I do not have time right now”. Legal can never be the bottle neck.

Being able to find creative solutions for problems is what inspires him the most.

As an inhouse lawyer, he believes that you cannot nor should you win every detail against your client, but instead you focus on what really matters and also try to accommodate your client’s interests.

In his spare time, he is a passionate golfer and during winter- time he plays beer-league level hockey a few times a week.
