What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?
In 2024 one of the most critical focus areas was to support the handover and onboarding of both new SVP HR & Operational Development and the new CEO, both of whom were replaced in 2024. In addition, a lot of work and time was invested to ensure the best possible post-closing of a couple of acquisitions made in 2024. One project I am also in particular proud of was being part of the decision-making team to successfully take in an order in South-America with a value exceeding €1bn.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
I always approach managing legal aspects with a holistic view to begin with. Once this is done, it is easier to deal with the different aspects one by one. The geopolitical instability, market trends, and continuous “tsunami” of new directives etc sets high requirements for an in-house legal team to navigate through all this. I believe that with my calm and supporting approach, I have managed to engage and empower the legal team to deal with every assignment professionally.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
I have had the possibility to experience and participate in a very interesting hostile take-over where two stock listed companies (Valmet being the other) competed to get the same target company. This was a unique experience, which I am glad to say ended up positively for Valmet.
What are the key things you prioritise to get the most out of your team?
Key things I like to prioritise are, among others, transparent communication, fast response time, respecting others, engagement, empowerment, innovation and collaboration.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
I believe we need to keep a close eye on how AI develops and trends into the business world, and how legislation is able to follow the development.
