Earning over €50bn in annual revenues and with over 300,000 employees, French company Auchan Retail ranks among the largest food retailers in the world. Legal and tax director Carlos Pedreira Freire, who only joined the company in April 2017, is already contributing to the business by supporting Auchan Retail’s latest growth strategies.

To this end, Pedreira Freire helped expand the company’s presence in China and is engaged on its exclusive talks with Casino Group to build a global strategic partnership. This potential agreement will enable Auchan Retail to jointly negotiate their purchases in France and abroad from their main multi-national food and non-food suppliers without flouting applicable competition rules. Before joining Auchan, Pedreira Freire spent 11 years in the legal department of French-based fashion retailer KIABI, serving as chief finance officer in Hong Kong immediately prior to assuming his current role. He has also held senior legal positions at the company’s offices in France and Spain during his tenure there including general counsel to the board of directors.
