François Graux joined world energy giant Engie in 2013 as general counsel, leading a legal team which employs 490 lawyers across more than 40 countries. Managing about 60 lawyers at the company headquarters in Paris, Graux overseas a variety of business units, taking care of the six departments of competition, regulation, litigation, arbitration and legal risks to name a few.
Prior to this he was general counsel for GDF SUEZ Energy, a position he held from July 2008 until January 2011. He began his legal career as a lawyer at Stibbe Simont Monhan Duhot in Brussels in 1993. In 1997, he left private practice to join Tractebel, a subsidiary of Suez Group, as legal counsel working on generation and transmission operations. In 2000, he moved to Tractebel Bangkok to become senior legal counsel and general counsel for the Asia-Pacific region. Graux returned to Brussels in 2003 and became general counsel of SUEZ Energy international.
