Philippe Andrau was appointed as group general counsel at water treatment and water management business Suez Environnement in 2013, where he currently oversees some 200 lawyers worldwide, including over fifty in France. During his tenure, besides showcasing exceptional managerial skills necessary to oversee such a large legal operation Andrau has impressed with the application of his legal knowledge on M&A transactions, recently receiving credit from colleagues for his support of Suez’s 2017 purchase of the Water & Process Technologies unit from GE Power. Andrau joined Suez Environnement from the French contained transportation and shipping company CMA-CGM Group, where he briefly headed the legal department. Before that he served as a legal director at Thomson Multimedia (now Technicolor) and as legal head of the Alstrom Group’s subsidiary GEC-Alsthom Transport. Andrau started his legal career in 1987 at Sanofi as a junior level lawyer and headed the company’s bio-industries branch for a brief period. Andrau holds a PhD in public international law from Toulouse 1 Capitole University, after obtaining a DEA in international law. He also holds a degree from the Institute of International and European Studies of Toulouse 1.
