Eurazeo
Eurazeo’s legal team is led by head of legal, general counsel and member of the executive committee Nicolas Huet, and ably supported by deputy general counsel Cécile Gilliet and Nathalie Mazurier who are responsible for M&A and securities and regulatory matters respectively. Gilliet reports that, beside the M&A deals part of the investment activity of Eurazeo as investment company (around 35 transactions in 2018), Eurazeo completed three major strategic investments in 2018 and 2019. ‘Two of these investments occurred in 2018 with the completion of the strategic investment in Rhône Group, a global alternative investment management firm with over €5bn in assets under management and the acquisition of a controlling stake in Idinvest Partners, a management company managing €7bn for notable insurance companies and leading institutional investors. In July 2019, Eurazeo acquired a strategic interest in MCH Private Equity, a leading Iberian middle market private equity fund manager based in Madrid’. Meanwhile, the Eurazeo securities and regulatory team has defined and deployed legal processes at Group level. Recent achievements have been the implementation of a data protection program, ensuring Eurazeo’s compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, and internal rules and procedures in the context of Sapin 2. Gilliet also discussed the team culture which motivates the members of the department: ‘The Eurazeo legal team must be at all times a business partner for the investment activity while ensuring that Eurazeo governance and regulatory matters are set at the top of those practiced by public companies’, she says. ‘Given our small size, we need to be very efficient and work in a very close relationship with the various external lawyers’.
