Ranked as the number one luxury goods company in the world by Deloitte’s 2016 Global Powers of Luxury Goods report, French multinational luxury goods conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton manages, through its subsidiaries, more than 30 prestigious luxury brands, including Donna Karan, Bulgari, and TAG Heuer, along with a wider portfolio ranging from wines and spirits to media. LVMH is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index and a constituent of the CAC 40 index. LVMH’s overall general counsel is US-based Louise Firestone, while London-based Isabelle Meyer heads legal affairs for Europe. However, while LVMH is very much a global company in its operations, around a third of its 83,000 staff are based in France, where a substantial legal team is also present. Caroline Bergeron-Plantefève, senior legal director, was praised for her ‘excellent skills and a highly commercial approach to legal advice’. The wider team was also cited by a number of nominators for its contribution to the business and ability to work across a diverse range of markets and product categories. Recently, the group has moved to take control of Christian Dior in a reported €12bn deal. LVMH has owned Christian Dior perfumes and beauty lines since the 1960s and will move to bring its fashion and fragrance lines under a single company. The Arnault family, which holds a controlling stake in LVMH, already owns a majority of Christian Dior’s stock.
