General counsel Nathalie Martin is the lead lawyer in a team providing counsel and leadership to M6, the most profitable private television network in France. Due to the channel’s large viewing figures, which translate to almost 10% of the audience share in France, the M6 brand is extremely visible in the country and therefore requires diligent and swift counsel to mitigate its legal and compliance challenges. In particular, the legal team is under pressure to secure and maintain numerous agreements needed to offer its viewers the best range of television programming possible, spanning native French TV shows to internationally syndicated programming from the United States and the United Kingdom. The legal team was also critical during a period of reorganisation for the company, as during the recent past a new, consolidated Groupe M6 was given the go-ahead by executives and regulators. As part of this new organisation, all French broadcasting activities will be centralised under the M6 name, spanning television and radio channels, which were boosted when M6 secured the full ownership of RTL Group’s French radio stations in a transaction worth over €200m.
