Société Générale is one of France’s most historic and strongest performing financial services companies; from its headquarters in Paris it commanded a revenue figure of €25.64bn in 2015 thanks to its diversified operations in the banking and finance sector. Legal support to Société Générale is led by group general counsel Dominique Bourrinet – who was included in The Legal 500 GC Powerlist: France in 2016 – and encompasses a large amount of lawyers and other staff across all of Société Générale’s offerings in both domestic and international settings. Undertaking a remit with legal risk, policy and global relations for one of France’s largest banking institutions at its core, the department is an all-encompassing function with extensive knowledge of all relevant banking and financial laws in addition to specific sector knowledge and world class reputation management. The team expertly combined all of these elements in the recent past through the successful negotiation of a settlement between Société Générale and the Libyan Investment Authority, ending a dispute regarding a case focused on five trades totalling between 2007 and 2009.
