Employing more than 183,000 people in around 100 countries, VINCI is a global player in concessions and construction. Heading the legal team for the company since 2001 is legal director, Patrick Richard. By virtue of the company’s business model, the legal department is consistently active in assisting on a number of domestic and international deals to build and or operate large construction projects for multinational and state-owned companies. Significant deals in the recent past include the purchase of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal for €3bn in 2012 and winning a contract worth €440m to build an express-lane highway system in the US state of Georgia. In one of the biggest deals for the company in recent memory, the team at VINCI successfully facilitated the formation of a consortium with Orix for them to acquire a 44 year concession contract to operate two Japanese airports in a deal worth approximately $18bn. Supporting Richard in handling these legal matters are notable team members such as Jerome Beaudouin, who is legal head for finance and capital markets and Cédric Lougnon, who as deputy general counsel is head of M&A and corporate finance legal for the company. Domestically, the team helped conclude an agreement for VINCI Energies to buy a French leader in cloud building, APX Integration, in 2015 and a year later for VINCI Airports to join a consortium with Caisse des Dépôts and Crédit Agricole Assurances to acquire 60% of the capital in Aéroports de Lyon.
