General counsel | The Linde Group
With approximately 60,000 employees in over 100 countries and a 2016 revenue of nearly €17bn, The Linde Group is one of the world’s leading gas and engineering companies. In charge of the Group’s global legal and compliance function is the highly regarded general counsel Dr Christoph Hammerl. He joined Linde in 2001, working in various legal positions and acquiring an advanced knowledge of the company’s operations before taking his current high-ranking role in September 2016. Linde is currently benefiting from Hammerl’s input on its proposed $74bn merger with US peer Praxair, as both companies aim to create the global market leader in one the biggest deals in recent memory. Supporting such a large-scale transaction, Hammerl is working closely with the business and coordinating his team of lawyers to overcome a number of regulatory hurdles with a particular focus on complying with international antitrust regimes. Before Linde, Hammerl spent four years as legal counsel for French food company Nestlé in Germany between 1997 and 2001. He began his professional legal career as a private practice lawyer at law firm RAe Krebs, Meister & Schöfer and is a graduate of the University of Bayreuth.
